SEVILLE, SPAIN, April 06, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Seville's Feria de Abril is a major spring celebration known to attract thousands of people to the Andalusian capital.

It traditionally begins two weeks after the city has observed the Semana Santa - Easter Holy Week - and runs for six days.

This year's Feria de Abril is expected to start at midnight on Monday May 2nd and run until Sunday May 8th, with plenty of music, dancing and other entertainment taking place in between.

A piece of land known as the Real de la Feria, located on the bank of the Guadalquivir River, is the focal point of the celebrations.

Rows of brightly-coloured marquee tents known as casetas cover the ground and are decorated with lanterns.

Each of these pavilions boasts its own tradition and atmosphere, but some of the casetas are private and visitors must receive an invitation to enter. However, others are open to everyone and include public bars.

Many people stay up all night to enjoy the flamenco music and dancing, but there is also a busy programme of daytime activities such as horse parades and bullfights.

The Feria de Abril started life as a livestock trading fair in 1847, but has evolved over the years into an energetic celebration of Andalusian culture and heritage.
